NOTES ABOUT THIS NEWSLETTER LIST:

In December, 1992 a monthly spinoff from Correction News began publication -- four pages, 8.5x7 -- featuring a centerfold calender of scheduled DOC events as well as front and back pages of news and personnel items of interest.

Called Correction News Dateline, it was printed and distributed from Central Office as well as faxed to facilities for copymachine reproduction, distribution and posting. It eventually superseded and supplanted its parent.

Below are listed the few dozen issues of Correction News Dateline. They are kept in the archives maintained by the New York Correction History Society at the Correction Academy.

Correction News Dateline evolved from the DOC Morale Committee's recognition of the need for communicating the activities of the agency and affiliated groups in a timely fashion throughout the Department.

The front page story of the first issue focused on Commissioner Catherine M. Abate's employee suggestion program. The back page featured a Correction People section that included a listing of facility employees-of-the-month and Substance Abuse Intervention Division honorees. Other items included the following notes [ in their original text ]:

Dateline's centerfold featured a calender of DOC events for the month, including regular and special meetings of affiliated groups.

  • Salsa superstar Ray Sepulveda and his orchestra performed at GMDC Nov. 19th, marking the beginning of the Department's observance of Puerto Rican Heritage Week. The concert was arranged by Eugene Figueroa, GMDC counseling services manager.
  • Correction offcials from the People's Republic of China visited department facilities Oct. 7th. The group met with Commissioner Abate and Dr. Jess Maghan, Assistant Commissioner for Training and Developmea Helping host were Asian lade Society officers.
