More 1930 NYC Prison Keepers Training School Photos
Lettering on above photo reads Prison Keepers Training School - Dep't of Correction - April 4, 1930.
Note that Head Keeper Terence J. Mills stands center, with two instructors (dark pants, light stripes down sides), all three with hands behind backs. Trainees stand at attention, arms at sides.
Lettering on above photo reads Prison Keepers Training School - Nov. 1930.
Note that Head Keeper Terence J. Mills is not in this picture apparently taken in a gym.
Two instructors (light color pants, even lighter stripes down sides) sit on the floor. Each trainee seated on a chair has his right hand resting on his left hand. All trainees who are standing have their hands behind their backs. The group includes at least one trainee who appears African American (4th standee in on the right), making this just possibly the earliest known photo of an African-American prison keeper in New York City Correction history.
