The Digital Collections on the NYS Archives' website provide a gateway to a variety of rich primary source materials held by the State Archives, State Library, and State Museum. Through the collection, you can access photographs, textual materials, artifacts, government documents, manuscripts, and other materials.
In addition, some of these resources have been developed as part of special projects or initiatives, thereby bringing together the rich resources around a topical theme. These collections include the:

The Office of Cultural Education, NYS Department of Education, provides NYS Arechives website access to those materials for educational and research purposes.
The New York State Lantern Slides Collection [from which came the original of the facsimile on the right] consists 1600 lantern show slides within the New York State classification scheme of Division of Visual Instruction.
The slides provide a contemporary view of New York State landscape, inhabitants and activities between 1886 and 1939. The images document unique, contemporary scenes in factories, schools and agricultural settings as well as scenery, sites, structures, and other human activities.
Hart, Rikers and Brother Islands

The Fairchild Aerial Surveys Collection [from which came the originals of the facsimile on the left and the two below it] consists of photographic negatives and positive prints of low-altitude, oblique aerial views of a variety of NYS/NYC sites.The New York office of Fairchild Aerial Surveys (a commercial firm) produced the images during the years 1946-1949, 1951, and 1957.
While the images depict locations statewide, images relating to the New York City metropolitan area predominate.
