This tiny
island, only a mile long and one third of a mile wide at its widest point,
has had a grim history.
For the past hundred and fifty years, it has
been host to many of society's unwanted and undesirables: civil war
prisoners, juvenile delinquents, prison inmates, the indigent, the insane
and the disenfranchised dead. Once home to many hundreds, Hart is now the site of a ghost town. Numerous building, once part of a vital community, sit derelict and empty. |
