Photo Album Page 4 Below are images from photos snapped by tour participant Judy Berdy of the Roosevelt Island Historical Society. The 1931 Catholic chapel built to replace its Hart island predecessor erected in 1890. Correction Officers Samuel Perry and Thomas O'Connor, standing on the chapel steps, answer questions as the only officers still with NYC DOC who worked on Hart Island when inmates were housed there. As of the time of this tour, the photo and the writing of its caption, Officer Perry is the longest serving CO still on the job. Officer O'Connor, having joined DOC some months after Perry, is the second longest serving CO. For more information about the officers, click on their names. An old jail behind tree "bars." Tour participants inspect 1877 Civil War monument. |
