the honorable, hard-working and exceptionally
knowledgeable men and women of the New York City
Department of Correction. Your diligence and dedication
to public service and public safety help keep this City
safe 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
You carry out
the difficult and often dangerous duties necessary to
operate one of the nation's largest and most complex
jail systems with excellence. By providing the highest
level of care. custody and control of as many as
100,000 inmates every year, you perform a critical
role in this City’s law enforcement continuum.
And as
considerable as these contributions are, ever so many of
you also give generously of your time and your talent
when you are not at work, in the community. Bravo!
Medal Day is a special opportunity. a very public
opportunity, to shine a light on the best of our best.
the boldest of our bold. . . . today we honor you for your accomplishments and great
humanity.
. . . . we are especially honored to applaud those chosen
by their peers for special recognition today. You all
make a significant contribution every single day. Please
join with me to congratulate 2011's honorees.
