The following citation with the Mayor's Award to Correction Officer Reginald Wilson is taken from the Medal Day 2011 booklet.
CORRECTION OFFICER REGINALD WILSON, FIRE SAFETY UNIT
The arresting photo shows
a young boy nestled safely
inthearmsofamusded
man. The look on the man’s.
face is one of grave concern
and seiiousness, but the boy
looks calm,as if he knows -
everything will be OK.
That
man would be Correction
Officer Reginald Wilson
— “Reggie” — who carried
that boy after aiding him
and four others in a rescue
after a fire in an apartment
building in Mamaroneck,
NY.
Wilson is watching out
for fire safety on and off
the job. A member of the
DOC since 1998, Officer
Wilson is assigned to the
Fire Safety Unit at the DOC.
Off the job, he is Chief of
the volunteer Mamaroneck
Village Emergency Medical
Services, which responds
to over 1,400 calls for help
a year.
He is also a certified
NYS Police Instructor,
FEMA Instructor, CPR and
First Aid Instructor, all of
which means he is quite
busy teaching classes in the
community.
On the job at
DOC, he is also responsible
for responding to fire and
safety-related events and
emergendes. He is also a
former Marine.
