3D photo cards circa 1850s through 1930s For many decades, millions enjoyed the illusion of "being right there" looking through a special hand-held viewer at 2 minutely different photos of the same scenes. The "3D" effect is based on the binocularity of human vision: that the image seen by one eye and the slightly different image seen by the other eye are merged by the brain.
